Rep. Cleo Fields (D-LA) announced Tuesday that he will not seek reelection to Congress, opting instead to run for the Louisiana state Senate after the state’s congressional map eliminated his district.
Fields’s decision follows the Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, which found Louisiana’s majority-black 6th Congressional District to be an unconstitutional racial gerrymander and ordered the state to adopt a new map.
