FIFA President Gianni Infantino is praying for the White House’s support as he tries to quell outrage caused by plans to sell stakes in the World Cup to private equity firms, but it remains unclear whether President Donald Trump will intervene.
The State Department is denying a New York Post report that Infantino, who was forced to abandon a scheme to privatize the global tournament on Friday after national soccer associations threatened to walk away from FIFA, is pursuing a meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio to seek help staying in his position.
