President Trump is refusing to commit to releasing special counsel Robert Mueller’s final report to the public.
During an interview with CBS News that aired Sunday, Trump said the decision would be made by his attorney general.
“Totally up to to the attorney general,” Trump said on “Face the Nation.”
Trump’s attorney general nominee is William Barr, who is expected to be confirmed next week. Barr said during his confirmation hearing last month that Mueller’s findings in his Russia investigation will be confidential but that he supports their release to the public. “My objective and goal is to get as much as I can of the information to Congress and the public,” he said.
Trump, who routinely criticizes Mueller’s investigation as a “witch hunt,” said, “I don’t know. It depends,” when asked if he has a problem with the report being released to the public.
Although Trump, who has answered written questions posed by the Mueller team, said he has “no idea” what the report will say, he also stressed none of the charges stemming from the investigation relate to his campaign so far.
Mueller has charged 34 people since May 2017, including Trump campaign officials and advisers, when he took over the investigation into Russian election interference and possible connection to the Trump campaign. None of them relate to alleged collusion with the Kremlin.
