Democrats are trying hard to keep the the revenue raisers in their health care reform bill from being labeled as tax increases, so this won’t help their cause.

Americans for Tax Reform, a group that advocates lower taxes, among other things, has done a word search of the 1,502 page Senate Finance Committee proposal and they found that tax”  pops up 124 times and “taxable” is used 158 times.

Among other findings in the word search:

Excise Tax- 12 times

Taxpayer – 79 times

Penalty – 79 times

Require – 88 Times

Must – 40 times

Shall – 2,585 times.

The group contends that the excise tax is just one of several taxes in the legislation that violates a pledge made by Obama not to raise taxes on families earning less than $250,000 per year. Democrats said they are working on a proposal to lessen the impact of the excise tax so that fewer workers would have to pay it.
