The former special counsel who twice indicted President Donald Trump, Jack Smith, argued in his opening statement that the charges he brought were the “result of evidence,” saying he stood by his decisions as Special Counsel.
Smith appeared as the sole witness at the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing titled “Oversight of Jack Smith’s Abuse of Authority and the Targeting of Republicans and Related Matters.” His appearance will mark his second time going before a Republican-controlled congressional committee following his appearance before the House’s counterpart in January.
