Thune to skip White House AI meeting with Trump, Johnson, and tech CEOs

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) will not attend the highly anticipated meeting on artificial intelligence with President Donald Trump, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), and tech CEOs at the White House on Tuesday.

Thune told reporters on Capitol Hill on Monday that he would not be at the meeting as the Trump administration and Congress contend with calls from AI frontier model developers for a coordinated, international development slowdown.
