SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — The New York State Military Museum is offering two events to give the public the chance to meet the men behind exhibits of rare and vintage G.I. Joe figures and dioramas of National Guard units in World War II.
The programs are set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 for the G.I. Joe collection, and April 27 for the model dioramas.
Tearle Ashby of Ballston Spa loaned his extensive collection of G.I. Joes to the Saratoga Springs museum. He started collecting the figures after attending a G.I. convention at the Intrepid Museum in New York City.
Paul Fanning, a retired National Guard officer, has been creating models of historic New York Guard units for many years. He’ll talk about the pieces and share some of his model-making techniques.
