California is the most unaffordable state for normal, everyday residents, but Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) is spending his final days in office trying to secure massive tax breaks for Hollywood billionaires.
Newsom, who will leave office in January as the state’s term-limited governor (and will almost certainly run for president in 2028), announced he was “proposing the expansion of California’s current Film and Television Tax Credit Program from $750 million to at least $1 billion, and expanding the program as the nation’s largest capped film and TV tax credit.” Newsom’s proposal includes allowing studios to receive a credit for salaries paid to actors.
