Wasserman Schultz will not gavel in Dem convention

PHILADELPHIA — Ousted Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasseman Schultz will not gavel in the party convention this afternoon, she told a Florida newspaper.

Wasserman Schultz was forced to step aside after months of turmoil and leaked emails that suggest the DNC favored Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders during the primary.

Wasserman Schultz, a Florida representative in the U.S House, said she planned to gavel in the convention today and briefly address the audience.

But she backed down following a disastrous morning address to the Florida delegation. Wasserman Schultz was booed off the stage by protesters favoring Sanders.

“I have decided that in the interest of making sure that we can start the Democratic convention on a high note that I am not going to gavel in the convention,” Wasserman Schultz told the Florida Sun Sentinel.

Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio, will serve as permanent convention chair, the DNC rules committed decided on Saturday.
