Cheney blasts Obama’s foreign policy

Former Vice President Dick Cheney harshly criticized President Obama‘s foreign policy in a speech Wednesday given just hours ahead of a presidential address.

Speaking at the American Enterprise Institute, Cheney argued that Obama has “demonstrated his own distrust for American power as a force for good in the world.”

“Just what is Barack Obama doing?” Cheney said while traveling through the Middle East a few months ago.

“How could he so carelessly sacrifice America’s hard-won gains in the region, walking away from friends, leaving violent enemies to fill the void?” he added.

Cheney said he hopes Obama will use his speech Wednesday to announce a “forceful, bold and immediate strategy,” to defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, but argued that would be a “departure” from his prior foreign policy record.

Cheney was George W. Bush‘s vice president from 2001 to 2009. He told Republican lawmakers this week to prepare to a new war in Iraq.
