Paul Ryan’s office tweaks Obama after White House Jerusalem correction

House Speaker Paul Ryan’s office couldn’t resist the opportunity to tweak the White House after it issued a very noticeable correction omitting “Israel” as the location of Jerusalem late Friday afternoon.

Ryan press secretary AshLee Strong tweeted simply, “Speaker Ryan was proud to visit Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, earlier this year.”

The White House put out a corrected version of President Obama’s remarks at the funeral of Israeli statesman Shimon Peres after the initial version listed “Jerusalem, Israel.” The White House re-issued Obama’s remarks to say, “Mount Herzl, Jerusalem,

A White House official said after the correction was issued, “the Administration’s policy towards Jerusalem follows that of previous U.S. Administrations — of both parties — since 1967. The status of Jerusalem is an issue that should be resolved in final status negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.”
