Iranian minister: US drone an ‘Iranian asset’

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi told Fars News Agency, an Iranian paper “affiliated” with the nation’s Revolutionary Guards that has mocked President Obama over the downed US drone, that Iran has claimed the spy plane as its rightful possession.

“The US spy plane is among the assets of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Vahidi said to Fars News. Another Iranian official criticized Obama for requesting that Iran return the drone. “It seems that he has forgotten that Iran’s air space has been violated, espionage operations have been carried out, international laws have been violated and Iran’s internal affairs have been interfered,” said a spokesman for the Iranian foreign ministry.

The spokesman added that the United States “should accept its responsibility and its consequences” of the drone flying over Iran.

Fars News took a jibing tone with Obama, saying that he “begs Iran to give him back his toy plane,” and adding sarcastically that he “is hoping that the Iranian government is in a Christmas mood because he has asked Tehran to send him his Christmas present back.”
