Joe Biden’s campaign said the candidate has yet to take the coronavirus test because he is unaware of any contact with the disease.
“Vice President Biden has no fever, no cough, no shortness of breath or other symptoms consistent with coronavirus,” the campaign said in a Friday statement. “And the campaign has not been informed of or become aware of any relevant contact with an individual who has tested positive.”
“In keeping with this guidance, Biden has not been tested for COVID-19,” the campaign added. “Doing so would be against the advice of public health officials and expend valuable resources that should be dedicated to those most at risk. Biden and his campaign will continue to follow the best practices laid out by public health officials.”
President Trump announced Friday a national emergency over the coronavirus. He also said that he would “most likely” get tested for the coronavirus after reporters repeatedly pressed him on the subject.
The president came in contact with an aide to the Brazilian president last Saturday, who later tested positive for the coronavirus. Over 5,000 people worldwide have died from the virus so far.
