Top-ranked Terrapins win third NCAA championship

The top-ranked Terrapins won their third NCAA championship in four seasons with a 4-2 victory over Wake Forest at the University of Louisville. Maryland, which also won the title in 2005 and 2006, was led by goals from sophomore Katie O’Donnell, junior Nicole Muracco and seniors Danielle Keeley and Susie Rowe.

Maryland outshot the Demon Deacons, 13-5, and earned nine penalty corners to Wake Forest’s two. The Terrapins (22-4) advanced to Sunday’s game with a 2-1 double-overtime win against Iowa in the semifinals on Friday.

The Terrapins’ victory over Wake Forest (22-4) earned them their sixth national title in program history.
