Arrington injured in motorcycle crash

Former Washington Redskins All-Pro linebacker LaVar Arrington was seriously injured in Prince George’s County when he lost control of his motorcycle Monday afternoon while trying to merge onto the Capital Beltway,according to the Maryland State Police.

Arrington, 28, of Annapolis, was taken by ambulance to Prince George’s Hospital Center where he was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

He was issued a traffic citation for driving without a motorcycle license and for failure to control speed to avoid a collision. Arrington was wearing a motorcycle helmet. Police said that alcohol was not a contributing factor in the crash.

Police said Arrington was riding a 2007 Kawasaki ZX-14 on the ramp leading from westbound Route 50 to the Beltway about 1 p.m. when the motorcycle traveled partially onto the gravel along the should of the roadway, causing him to lose control. The motorcycle traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a guardrail.

The speed limit was 55 mph. Police have not determined how fast the motorcycling was traveling.

Arrington was drafted by the Redskins as the second pick overall in the 2000 NFL Draft. Arrington was a starter in three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2001-2003.

He signed with the New York Giants in 2006 and was released in February after missing half the season with an ruptured Achilles tendon.
