An electrician in Minneapolis feels helpless after being the victim of a crime.
Jerry Yang has been an electrician in Minneapolis for over 12 years. Recently, his trailer, which contained $20,000 worth of work tools, was stolen. Yang knows where the thieves took his trailer, thanks to a tracking device he installed. Yet, when he went to the police for help, he was told they couldn’t do anything. Why? Because the thieves reside in the city’s “Near North” homeless encampment.
“Near North” is located on city property and has been active for over two years. It is considered a hazardous and high-crime area and has been served multiple eviction notices by the city. Yet the city never enforces them. As a result, the residents of “Near North” dictate what will and will not be accepted by law enforcement. Meanwhile, people like Jerry Yang suffer.
“It’s not that we’re unwilling to help, we just have to find the right time and circumstances to do it,” a police spokesperson told KARE 11. He added that officers have to ‘be creative and get the job done with the least amount of force.'”
This is absolutely absurd. After two years, when exactly is “the right time?” Furthermore, why do criminals get a two-year reprieve for committing crimes? Why does Minneapolis care more about protecting criminals than innocent people? And why would the city’s leaders believe this is an effective strategy in fighting crime? They have essentially enabled criminals to terrorize their community without any consequences. It’s an example of everything that is wrong with American society today.
“The criminals there know that they can walk away and do whatever they want and know the cops aren’t going to enforce the law in that area,” said Yang. “It just makes me feel helpless and people in the community feel helpless.”
Time and time again, the Left’s solution to crime has been a cataclysmal disaster. The infusion of left-wing political agendas into the country’s criminal justice system has done nothing but empower those who prey on the innocent. Under the guise of social justice, their radical thinking consistently makes everyone less safe.
