Woman killed in crash on I-95

A 20-year-old Woodbridge woman was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 95.

The crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday when a woman driving north near the Newington exit in Fairfax County lost control of her 2002 Mercury Mointaineer. The SUV overturned across the northbound lanes and came to a stop in the road’s shoulder, Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said.

The only passenger in the vehicle, Breauna Woolen, was killed. The driver was her mother, Ashante Townes, 37. Townes taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of injuries police said were serious but not life-threatening.

Geller said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Charges have not been filed against Townes, but the crash remains under investigation.
