President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner heaped rare praise Monday on former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon after the Breitbart chairman called for Sen. Bob Corker’s resignation during a fiery Fox News interview.
Bannon received a short text from Kushner while dining with a group of friends and colleagues in Manhattan after he appeared on “Hannity.” The president’s son-in-law told Bannon he thought it was a great interview, according to two people familiar with the exchange.
A Bannon ally told the Washington Examiner it was the first time the ex-West Wing staffer has heard from Kushner since he left the White House in mid-August.
Kushner’s text came as Bannon was discussing his strategy for the 2018 midterm elections with some of the president’s most prominent supporters, including Fox News host Laura Ingraham and her radio producer Raymond Arroyo, former Trump adviser Sam Nunberg, and Breitbart editor Matt Boyle, according to the Bannon ally.
“We’re still not sure which part [of the interview] Jared thought was good,” the source tsaid.
In the rare cable news appearance, the former White House official told Hannity he plans on targeting every Republican senator who is up for re-election in 2018, excluding Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, whom he said belongs outside of the GOP establishment.
“We’re coming after all of them,” Bannon, a hardcore populist, said.
Bannon also slammed Corker for his criticism of Trump in an interview with the New York Times over the weekend, suggesting the Tennessee Republican “should resign immediately” if he has “any honor [or] any decency.”
