GOP pushes voters to the polls via Facebook app

In an effort to energize voters, the Republican National Committee has launched a new campaign to push people to vote on election day.

By using the “Voter to Voter” Facebook app, GOP voters pledge their support in the November elections, and then are prompted to challenge three other friends to do the same — much like the ALS “Ice Bucket Challenge.”

Once someone signs up, he or she gets an email from Chris McNulty, the RNC political director.

“But we want to make sure every Republican in your network pledges to cast their vote on November 4,” the email says.

The midterm elections are important, as the control of the Senate is up in the air. As of last week, independent political analysts switched their predictions from the week prior, saying Democrats will keep control.

The Republican Party has long been trying to catch their Democratic counterparts on the successful use of data and social media — this may be another step closer toward that goal.
