Northrop Grumman completes review of new Marine radar system
Northrop Grumman?s Electronic Systems division has successfully completed a preliminary design review of the Marine Corps? new Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar, or G/ATOR system, the company announced this week.
Completion of the review paves the way for further design and full production of the system, which will detect, track and provide target quality data to engage hostile aircraft, cruise missiles and air vehicles and locate enemies. Intended as a replacement for five existing Marine Corps radars, G/ATOR will also provide air traffic control capabilities.
“G/ATOR will provide unprecedented capabilities to the Marine Corps and Department of Defense,” Emmitt Gibson, Grumman vice president of Ground Based Tactical Radars, said in a release. “We are pleased to now proceed to Critical Design, the last major milestone before production begins.” ?
