With only three weeks remaining until the first day of school, Montgomery County officials are asking for the community’s help to buy and fill backpacks for students in need.
Backpacks and supplies can be dropped off today (Monday, Aug. 9) at five Whole Foods locations: 5269 River Rd. in Bethesda, 4420 Willard Ave. in Chevy Chase, 316 Kentlands Blvd. in Gaithersburg, 1649 Rockville Pike in Rockville, and 833 Wayne Ave. in Silver Spring.
On Saturday, Aug. 14, the goods can be dropped off at two of the district’s “Ask MCPS” events, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Westfield Wheaton Shopping Mall (2nd floor, by Target), or Westfield Montgomery Shopping Mall (1st floor, center court).
Items most needed include backpacks, pencils, pens, highlighters, pencil boxes, pencil pouches, rulers, large pink erasers, 3-ring binders, dividers, filler paper, pocket folders, and notebooks.
