Maybe the fortune tellers saw this coming.
Montgomery County will not appeal a Maryland Court of Appeals decision that its half-century-old ban on commercial fortune telling is unconstitutional.
“The county executive believes it is not a good use of resources to appeal the case,” said Patrick Lacefield, County Executive Ike Leggett’s spokesman.
The court ruled Thursday that the 1951 ban violates the First Amendment’s free speech protections.
Nick Nefedro, who wants to open a commercial fortune-telling business in Bethesda, challenged the Montgomery County law in May 2008.
