Fox News issues correction to ‘3 Mexican countries’ headline

Fox News apologized Sunday after a mistaken headline on the “Fox & Friends” a went viral on social media.

The early-morning show ran a graphic saying President Trump cut “U.S. aid to 3 Mexican countries.” The error came during discussion of Trump’s plan to cut aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras over the large number of migrants coming into the United States from those three countries.

Ed Henry, a “Fox and Friends” host, apologized on air after the flub.

“We want to clarify and correct something that happened earlier in the show,” Henry said. “We had an inaccurate graphic on screen while talking about this very story. We just want to be clear, the funding is being cut off to the three Central American countries. We apologize for the error.”

The apology came after photos of the chyron began circulating around the Internet. Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., weighed in, trashing the network over the mistake.

“‘3 Mexican Countries.’ Just a reminder that these are the same folks who assert their superiority by belittling the intelligence and good faith of others,” she tweeted.

The State Department announced Saturday that it would be cutting aid to the three countries for failing to address illegal immigration over the U.S.-Mexico border.
