Crane, tree topples in Bethesda neighborhood

A crane operator who was removing a 100-year-old oak tree in Bethesda suffered a broken leg when the crane toppled over on Saturday, according to news reports.

The tree was too heavy for the crane and it tipped over, bringing the tree down with it. The massive tree crashed between two homes on Bent Branch Road in Bethesda.

The crane operator is recovering and another worker, who was in the tree at the time of the crash, was not injured. The tree was being removed because it had been damaged in the storm that ripped through the region on Friday, June 29.
