The Clinton campaign got its first A-list celebrity staffer with Olympic figure skating champion Michelle Kwan.
Kwan, who won her first of two Olympic medals while Bill Clinton was serving his second term as president, joined Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign as a full-time, permanent staffer Wednesday. She will be working on outreach to engage voters on issues relevant to working families.
The Olympic medal winner adds some flash to the campaign’s Brooklyn headquarters during the days leading up to Clinton’s big Saturday announcement, as she is the only well-known, nonpolitical figure on the campaign staff.
Clinton has previously received numerous celebrity endorsements, such as Lena Dunham, Diane Kruger and Magic Johnson, but thus far none have volunteered to become full-time staffers.
But this isn’t the first time Kwan and Clinton have collaborated. Kwan was a State Department public envoy, serving as an adviser to an initiative facilitating high-level U.S.-China dialogues on women’s issues.
