Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, under fire for its spending and underwhelming war chest, is scrambling to hire fundraisers around the country.
In its latest job posting, the campaign said it is seeking “deputy regional finance directors” to turn up the heat on donors.
“These individuals will serve as essential members of the campaign’s finance department, working in regional teams to strategically raise contributions and manage donor relationships across the country,” said the posting on Daybook.
The campaign also indicated that minorities would get preference. “Candidates who identify as members of historically underrepresented groups are highly encouraged to apply. A diverse workforce and open culture are at the heart of our organization, and vital to our success,” said the campaign.
Biden has been forced to answer questions about his poor fundraising and spending.
Just Monday, his online fundraising chief sent out a pleading email that read, “if you haven’t given in October, now is the time.”
On 60 Minutes Sunday night, he faced this question from Norah O’Donnell: “You can look at the last campaign finance — filing. We looked at that. You have less than $9 million in the bank. Bernie Sanders has $30 — nearly $34 million in the bank. Senator Warren has $26 million. How do you compete against that?”
Biden, with a laugh, said, “I just flat beat them. We’re on a course to do extremely well. I’m not — I’m not worried about being able to fund this campaign. I really am not, truly.”
