PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — A 19-year-old Pensacola man is charged with killing his girlfriend’s 1-year-old daughter.
Pensacola police say Alfred Simpson is accused of killing Dariyana Durant, who was taken off life support Tuesday and died a short time later. The Pensacola News Journal (http://on.pnj.com/1qmy0WO ) reports Simpson told police he was watching the child while his girlfriend took a nap last week.
He told police he left the apartment briefly and when he returned, the girl was limp and her breathing was shallow. She was taken to the hospital, where doctors determined she had suffered from trauma to the back of the head. Authorities say the injury wasn’t consistent with Simpson’s account.
Simpson is being held without bail at the Escambia County Jail. It was unclear whether he’s retained an attorney.
