The former New York City mayor warned a crowd at Harvard — Hahvuhd, people — that campus bias against conservatives is not only evident, but toxic.

“It is just a modern form of McCarthyism,” Bloomberg said. “Think about the irony: In the 1950s, the right wing was attempting to repress left wing ideas. Today, on many college campuses, it is liberals trying to repress conservative ideas even as conservative faculty members are at risk of becoming an endangered species.”
He took special aim at the Ivy League, observing that 96 percent of all campaign contributions from faculty and staff went to President Obama in 2012.
“There was more disagreement among the old Soviet politburo than there is among Ivy League donors.”

Bloomberg’s speech was adapted into an article, “Don’t Major in Intolerance,” posted to Bloomberg View. In it, one last piece of academia-shaming:
“This spring, it has been disturbing to see a number of college commencement speakers withdraw, or have their invitations rescinded, after protests from students and — to me, shockingly — from senior faculty and administrators who should know better.
“It happened at Brandeis, Haverford, Rutgers and Smith. Last year, it happened at Swarthmore and Johns Hopkins. In each case, liberals silenced a voice and denied an honorary degree to individuals they deemed politically objectionable.”
Bloomberg has spent time as both a Democrat and a Republican in his life. His current pursuits include particular left-leaning causes and oh-he’s-just-joking jokes about earning a place in heaven for them.
