SAN MATEO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities have identified a couple killed in a head-on collision between a van and a commuter bus.
The San Mateo County Coroner’s office on Saturday says 84-year-old Joseph Stivala and his wife, 79-year-old Anna Stivala of San Mateo, were riding in their a van when it crossed a center divider and struck a SamTrans bus head-on at a major intersection in San Mateo Friday afternoon.
Anna Stivala was pronounced dead at the scene and her husband, Joseph, who was driving was taken to a local hospital. He later died from his injuries.
SamTrans spokeswoman Jayme Ackemann says five bus passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
