As Democratic candidates continued to hammer down on Bernie Sanders’ suggestions for a healthcare overhaul in the United States, Sanders reached a boiling point and lashed out at Tim Ryan for claiming he cannot guarantee comprehensive health coverage to union employees via “Medicare for all.”
Sanders suggested that union members under “Medicare for all” would actually receive better care, particularly senior citizens, who would also be covered for dental and vision care without private health insurance. Ryan interrupted the Vermont senator to say, “You don’t know that,” to which Sanders sharply retorted, “I do know. I wrote the damn bill!”
Ryan, a House of Representatives member from Ohio, further argued with Sanders, saying he could not possibly know that his plan would be an improvement to every union-negotiated healthcare program in the country.
