Injury-riddled Terps defense was last in ACC

Maryland made it official today, announcing that defensive coordinator Todd Bradford will not return. The sides agreed to a negotiated buyout of Bradford’s contract, which had two years remaining at $350,000 per season.

Bradford lasted just one season with the Terrapins. The injury-riddled Maryland defense ranked last in the ACC, yielding 34.2 points and 457 yards per game. In the season finale, the Terps were humiliated by N.C. State 56-41, as the Wolfpack scored the last 42 points, in a game that Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson observed from the sidelines.

“We appreciate Todd’s efforts this past season and wish him well in his future endeavors,” head coach Randy Edsall said in a statement. “It is the right time for us to move forward in a different direction.”

Bradford, the former defensive coordinator at Southern Miss (2008-10), came to Maryland to coach defensive backs. But when Maryland two-year defensive coordinator Don Brown made a surprise move to U-Conn, Bradford assumed his duties.

Bradford has also been an assistant at Lehigh, Louisiana Tech, Wisconsin, Middle Tennessee, Brigham Young, and Oklahoma State.
