Dolly Parton admits: ‘I do not think I will ever tour again’

Dolly Parton admitted she has no plans to ever tour again at the age of 76.

“I do not think I will ever tour again, but I do know I’ll do special shows here and there, now and then. Maybe do a long weekend of shows or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore,” Parton told Pollstar in an interview. “I’ve done that my whole life, and it takes so much time and energy. I like to stay a little closer to home with my husband. We’re getting older now, and I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time.”

The last time Parton toured was in the United States and Canada in 2016. She also went on a decadelong hiatus from touring in the ’90s, returning to tour in 2002.

In the meantime, Parton is working on a rock album since she’s been nominated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Her husband of over 50 years, Carl Dean, is a rock and roll fan, according to Parton, so the album is inspired by him.

“I have to honestly say, I’m very grateful and honored, but I’m also the kind of person — I had to do a rock album because if I’m going to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I’m going to by God earn it!” Parton said.

Parton has won a dozen Grammys over her career and is one of few who have been nominated for all of the awards that make up an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).
