HOT SPRINGS, Va. (AP) — Authorities are investigating human remains found on private land near The Homestead’s Lower Cascades golf course in Hot Springs.
Media outlets report that two people discovered the remains in woods on Sunday.
Police say clothing was found with the remains. But police wouldn’t say whether any other items were found.
The remains have been sent to the medical examiner’s officer.
Bath County Sheriff R.W. Plecker says the only missing person his office is investigating is fugitive Beacher Hackney.
Hackney is charged with killing two co-workers at The Homestead on March 21, 2009. The last glimpses of Hackney are from the resort’s surveillance cameras. He was added to the U.S. Marshals’ 15 Most Wanted fugitive list in July 2011.
