Democrats reveal just how low they’ll go to take down Trump

Democrats can’t lay a finger on President Trump, and their efforts to revive the smear campaign against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh show they’re getting ever more desperate.

The New York Times recently published a report detailing an allegation made by one of Kavanaugh’s former classmates at Yale University involving an incident of sexual misconduct during a college dorm party. Specifically, the report claimed that Kavanaugh’s friends “pushed his penis into the hand of a female student” who also attended the event.

Democrats, grasping at straws for another weak reason to attack Trump, wasted little time before calling for Kavanaugh’s immediate impeachment, even though the story was riddled with inconsistencies that made it just as implausible as the unsubstantiated accusations that Democrats leveled at Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings.

Sens. Kamala Harris of California and Cory “Spartacus” Booker of New Jersey both demanded Kavanaugh’s impeachment in response to the article. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren went so far as to tie the issue to Democratic efforts to impeach Trump, arguing that “Kavanaugh should be impeached” just like “the man who appointed him.”

As so often happens, the Democratic outrage turned out to be premature. Just hours after publishing the original story, the New York Times admitted that the alleged victim of the sexual assault did not corroborate the reporting and even told her friends that she doesn’t remember the incident.

In other words, the New York Times presented secondhand gossip as “news,” and some of the highest-profile Democrats in the country treated it as grounds for impeaching a Supreme Court justice.

I almost feel sorry for desperate Democrats, because nothing has gone their way in recent months. The Mueller investigation, which they fully expected to destroy Trump’s presidency, ended up being the biggest waste of time in our country’s history. Trump’s pro-growth policies continue to fuel a strong and growing economy that is improving the lives of people at every income level. And perhaps more importantly, the public is still as deeply opposed to impeachment as the Democrats are determined to pursue that lost cause.

Time and time again, Democrats have failed to take down Trump with their dirty smears, so now they’re turning their attention to other conservative targets, such as Kavanaugh and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

But this strategy is also destined to fail because Trump won’t allow the liberal machine to steamroll innocent conservatives.

As despicable as the smears against Kavanaugh are, they also clearly demonstrate that Democrats are scrounging for crumbs. When an uncorroborated New York Times report about a college party that took place more than three decades ago becomes a priority for the 2020 Democrats, it’s obvious that they know just how bad their prospects are in the upcoming presidential election.
