Sen. Al Franken says he has no interest in being president because “it’s too hard.”
During an interview on ABC News’ “Powerhouse Politics” podcast, the Minnesota Democrat was asked to respond to speculation that he might run for the White House in 2020.
After initially saying he has no “intention” of running, Franken pivoted to a more decisive response.
“I didn’t know what I was saying. I have no plans to run for president in 2020,” said Franken.
Upon further introspection, Franken added, “I don’t want to be president. It looks like it’s too much work, it’s too hard. I’ve seen what the presidency is from a little closer than I thought I’d ever see it when I was a comedian. And it is an incredibly demanding job.”
Looking back on his first 100 days in office back in April, President Trump also commented on the difficulty of the workload as commander in chief.
“I loved my previous life, I loved my previous life. I had so many things going,” Trump told Reuters. “I actually, this is more work than my previous life. I thought it would be easier.”
