Kalpen Modi, known outside the Beltway as actor Kal Penn, may be ditching Washington and his White House post in a month to finish off the “Harold & Kumar” franchise, but he’s still a little shaken from his recent mugging.
“They held me down on the ground at gunpoint,” Modi recounted to Yeas & Nays at Friday’s New Yorker party. “I didn’t know if they were going to shoot me or something.” Modi held his hands over his head re-enacting the encounter and explained that he was merely walking home from grabbing drinks with friends when he became one of several Washingtonians who were mugged that night.
The actor-turned-associate director in the White House Office of Public Engagement said he’s sad to leave his gig and may consider returning to the White House after filming the Christmas-themed “Harold & Kumar” movie in Canada.
