Bears on the loose in Manassas Park

The Manassas Park parks department has closed parts of Signal Hill Park after finding evidence of black bears in the 110-acre park.

The parks department has fenced off part of an asphalt trail in the park. Though officials have not seen any black bears in the park, they are shutting certain areas down as a safety precaution.

“This is the fourth year in a row that staff has noted some scat and some marking on trees indicating a bear has passed through,” Manassas Park City Manager Jim Zumwalt told NBC Washington.

Park visitors are urged to call the parks department at 703-335-8872 if they see a bear. It’s also best not to approach it.
