Heather Heidelbaugh: Obama is governing as a community organizer

President Barack Obama was a community organizer with Project Vote, an affiliate of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), before entering public service. What effect has his prior association with ACORN had on his methodology of governing as president?

The recent effort by the White House to keep track of all of the rumors about the healthcare reform bill must lead all but the most ardent Obama supporters to acknowledge one thing: The White House has implemented the radical tactics the president learned in the streets of Chicago, organizing for ACORN.

In a book written in 1986 and long ago forgotten, titled “Organizing the Movement,” author Gary Delgado a 14-year ACORN organizer, trainer, and recruiter explicitly and unapologetically outlines the guerilla response of ACORN when confronted by opposition. His book is the diary of an insider revealing the early history of ACORN through its first years.

Delgado describes the history of how ACORN started as a welfare rights organization in Arkansas and then began to expand into other areas of interest or “campaigns.” He writes:

“Organizing campaigns implement what organizers call the three I’s: Identify the enemy, isolate him, and ice him … ACORN’s approach to political parties, completely IN LINE WITH ITS APPROACH TO OTHER TARGETS, was to create or uncover policy handles, then identify the enemy, isolate him, and ice him … Besides mobilizing more than 10,000 people in the primaries [1980], ACORN mobilized an equal number to picket, demonstrate, disrupt, and generally raise hell.”

The American people have begun in record numbers to protest the big government push behind health care reform. In guerilla response, Obama and his cronies have reverted to classic ACORN protocols: Identify the enemy, isolate him, and ice him.

First, “identify the enemy.” The White House Office of Health Care Reform developed the email address [email protected] wherein your neighbor can report you to the government.

Second, “isolate him” appears to be the handmaiden of Nancy Pelosi and the other Congressional leaders when they refer to their neighbors, constituents, and fellow citizens as mobsters, planted insurance company employees, and manufactured protestors.

And lastly, the third prong, “ice him,” was the special gift that Service Employees International Union (SEIU) thugs bestowed on the head and body of Ken Gladney, an African American from St. Louis who had the temerity to sell ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ flags at a town hall meeting.

After ACORN succeeds in executing the three I’s, it starts in motion its signature moves: Pickets, demonstrations, disruptions, and general hell raising. And just like ACORN, the President through his senior advisor David Axelrod and Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina said to Democrat senators in regard to the opponents at town hall meetings on health care: “If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard.” SEIU and ACORN thugs started to show up at town hall meetings.

A nut, or ACORN acolyte in this case, doesn’t fall far from the tree. Obama learned the essentials of community organizing, ACORN/Chicago style, and it is imbued into his soul.

Despite the smooth talk and charisma, Obama adopted the beliefs and tactics of the organization he helped grow into a mighty tree. You want to understand the real Obama? Understand ACORN.
