Man dies after collapsing during football game in Arlington

A 22-year-old man died after he collapsed while playing flag football in Arlington, authorities said.

Around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, police officers were notified of a man collapsing at Washington-Lee High School. The victim collapsed, regained consciousness and asked “What is happening?” before he collapsed again and stopped breathing, Arlington Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

Witnesses, one of whom was an off-duty police officer and another of whom was a nurse, started CPR before the man was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

The man was found to have a pre-existing medical condition, Sternbeck said.
