Carly Fiorina believes Donald Trump is in the presidential race for selfish reasons.
“Donald Trump is not in it for the American people,” the former GOP presidential hopeful told host Alisyn Camerota on CNN’s “New Day” Thursday morning. “He’s in it for himself, just like how he’s been in it for himself all his life.”
Fiorina, who endorsed Ted Cruz on Wednesday, added that Trump doesn’t care about everyday Americans.
“The big lie he’s peddling is that he’s in it for the little guy, that he’s going to reform the system,” she said.
“He’s not in it for the little guy. He’s in it for himself,” the ex-Hewlett Packard CEO added. “That’s why he asks his supporters to take a loyalty pledge to him.”
Fiorina added: “Ted Cruz said in his rally yesterday that that is exactly backwards, and Ted Cruz is exactly right. The president of the United States, when he raises his hand and takes an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, he is pledging loyalty to the nation and its citizens.”
At a Cruz rally in Miami on Wednesday, Fiorina called him a “fearless fighter and reformer” and the only candidate capable of defeating Trump for the GOP nomination and Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in the general election.
After poor finishes in Iowa and New Hampshire, Fiorina ended her presidential campaign.
