An F-35 stealth fighter crash-landed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, just days after an F-22 crashed at the same base.
The most recent incident occurred Tuesday night when “the pilot was participating in a routine night training sortie,” according to a news release on the crash. The pilot was able to eject and is in stable condition after being taken to the hospital for monitoring.
The first accident took place on Friday, when an F-22 crashed at the base’s training range. The pilot safely ejected, was taken to a hospital, and was reported to be in stable condition.
Both crashes are under investigation.
Eglin Air Force Base is located on the Florida Panhandle, halfway between Pensacola and Panama City Beach.
The Tuesday F-35 incident is only the second crash involving the fifth-generation fighter to happen in the United States. The aircraft is estimated to be worth about $90 million.
