“Microaggressions” and “allyship” are out at the U.S. Foreign Service.
The State Department announced Thursday that it will be overhauling policies in the diplomatic personnel system, ending a slew of protocols previously established to further diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.

“The DEI agenda was embedded in the institutional culture of the Foreign Service during the previous administration. DEI objectives and materials shamefully denigrated the United States, derided Americans of certain backgrounds, and distracted from legitimate foreign policy objectives that serve the American people,” the department said in a statement.
The department published a list of policies and workplace practices that exemplify the culture being gutted from the Foreign Service.
The report alleges that Foreign Service instructors were required to read critical race theory texts including White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo and In Defense of Looting by left-wing “agitator” Vicky Osterweil.
Foreign Service instructors were also allegedly provided with a “DEI toolkit” for discussing “white privilege” and “systemic racism” in foreign languages like Urdu and Hebrew, as well as an “Inclusivity Guide” for integrating practices like “non-binary pronouns” into course materials.
“America’s diplomats are the nation’s first line of defense against hostile powers, terrorists, deadly narcotics smuggling, illegal immigration, and other threats to the safety, security, and prosperity of the American people,” the department said, adding that it is “implementing modernization reforms to the Foreign Service and invites all Americans with the skill and spirit to represent our nation around the world to apply to join the U.S. Foreign Service.”
DEI programs have been a target of President Donald Trump since returning to the Oval Office in 2025.
On his first day, Trump issued an executive order titled “Ending Radical And Wasteful Government DEI Programs And Preferencing,” which instructed federal government employees to “terminate, to the maximum extent allowed by law, all DEI, DEIA, and ‘environmental justice’ offices and positions (including but not limited to ‘Chief Diversity Officer’ positions); all ‘equity action plans,’ ‘equity’ actions, initiatives, or programs, ‘equity-related’ grants or contracts; and all DEI or DEIA performance requirements for employees, contractors, or grantees.”
Adherence to DEI policies was previously considered in the evaluation of Foreign Service officers.

One piece of DEI material from the Foreign Service during Joe Biden’s presidency, obtained by Fox News Digital, instructed offices to “routinely raise social inclusion, racial/gender equity, disability, and LGBTQI+ issues with high-level host country interlocutors, especially in countries where these issues are problematic.”
“Under the Trump Administration, America’s diplomats are tasked with advocating for our national interests on the world stage — not demonstrating adherence to woke political dogmas,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott told the outlet.
