Pelosi: I Don’t Have the Votes to Pass the Senate Bill

Speaker Nancy Pelosi said this morning: “In its present form without any changes I don’t think it’s possible to pass the Senate bill in the House…. I don’t see the votes for it at this time.” (More quotes from Pelosi here.)

Meanwhile, the Washington Post‘s Ezra Klein has an idea for a “pared back” health care bill: “Let people over age 50 into Medicare, expand Medicaid to people under 200% of the poverty line, and pay for it through a tax on the rich.”

In other words, one of the leaders of the reality-based community thinks that the Medicare buy-in–which died in December–is now viable.
