“Saturday Night Live” got off to a solemn start with Kate McKinnon’s Hillary Clinton playing the piano and singing “Hallelujah” for the entirety of the cold open.
The song was written by influential songwriter Leonard Cohen, who died this week at the age of 82.
Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump was nowhere to be seen in the first “SNL” episode since the election where Trump beat Clinton to be elected the 45th president.
Last week Baldwin and McKinnon broke the traditional cold opening formula, going hand-in-hand in a PSA to urge viewers to vote.
McKinnon ended the song by saying, “I’m not giving up and neither should you.”
