This is the second time in less than two weeks Trump has taken to Twitter to promote a poll that shows Clinton in the lead. Previously, he pointed to a poll on June 17 that had Clinton leading him with 51 percent to Trump’s 49 percent. That poll was taken more than a month earlier.
The newly-released Quinnipiac poll is the closest Trump has been to Clinton in any poll taken since early June, when a Rasmussen poll showed him to be trailing by a single point.
However, the polls have been tilting in Clinton’s favor in recent weeks as her lead has sat between two and 12 points, according to polls used by RealClearPolitics. Overall, Clinton leads by 6.2 percent over Trump, according to the most recent RCP average.
