Trump still blames intelligence community for leaking unverified report

President-elect Trump continued lashing out at the unverified report released Tuesday that alleged his surrogates worked with the Russian government to defeat Hillary Clinton in the election, once again blaming the intelligence community for the report.

“It now turns out that the phony allegations against me were put together by my political opponents and a failed spy afraid of being sued,” Trump tweeted early Friday morning. “Totally made up facts by sleazebag political operatives, both Democrats and Republicans – FAKE NEWS! Russia says nothing exists.”

“Probably released by ‘Intelligence’ even knowing there is no proof, and never will be. My people will have a full report on hacking within 90 days!”

It’s been reported that Christopher Steele, a former British spy now working for an opposition research team, compiled the report. The report circulated among the top levels of American government and media for months before BuzzFeed published it in full on Tuesday.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper released a statement Wednesday evening denying the document was leaked by the intelligence community. Top Trump advisers declined to say whether the president-elect believed Clapper’s statement.

In reacting to the report on Wednesday, Trump slammed the intelligence community for possibly leaking the report, asking “Are we living in Nazi Germany?”

“It was disgraceful disgraceful, that the intelligence agencies allowed any of the reports that turned out to be so false and so fake out,” he said in a press conference on Wednesday. “I think it’s a disgrace. And I say that and I say that. That’s something Nazi Germany would do and did do.”

The report alleges Trump’s people had been collaborating with the Russian government for at least five years and his associates met with Russian intelligence officials to get information on Clinton.

The report also alleges the Russians have compromising information on Trump, a claim the Kremlin has denied.

Trump has been extremely critical of the report, calling it a “political witch hunt.”

Trump also took time to praise his Cabinet selections who testified this week in front of the Senate, including those who broke ranks from him with some of their answers.

“All of my Cabinet nominee [sic] are looking good and doing a great job. I want them to be themselves and express their own thoughts, not mine!” Trump tweeted.
