Senate Dem Gillibrand nervous about NY-9

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-NY, sent out a fundraising email for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and David Weprin, the Democratic nominee who should have won easily the special election to replace Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-NY, but instead finds himself in a trailing Bob Turner, his Republican opponent, after a mistake-riddled campaign.

“David [Weprin] currently has a new television ad on the air, but to keep it up, and win the race, he needs our help . . .” Gillibrand wrote in the email, saying “this election is too important to let the Tea Party and outside shadow groups steal the race.”

“Steal the race”? It’s a sign of how far Turner has come that even Senate Democrats and the DCCC will admit to their supporters that Weprin could lose this election. If Turner wins, Republicans can tout the victory as an off-year referendum on President Obama.
