“Do you believe in the Easter Bunny? Do you believe in Santa Claus? Do you believe that Lois Lerner’s emails just suddenly went poof?” said CNN’s John King on New Day’s “Inside Politics” segment this morning.
(To answer his question, no Mr. King, not exactly.)
Last week, the IRS reported that Lerner’s emails from January 2009 to April 2011 could not be recovered due to a computer crash. This information is coming forward more than a year into the investigation of the IRS challenging the tax-exempt status of tea party groups.
“Republicans are very skeptical because they want to know if outside people, people outside the government were influencing her to go after the tea party,” King added.
As the former director of exempt organizations at the IRS, Lerner’s emails are thought to be a crucial component of the lengthy investigation. In this age of technological advancement, a man coming down your chimney on Christmas seems more likely than the government being incapable of recovering an email.
