A Navy fighter jet crashed in Kern County, California, on Tuesday near Ridgecrest.
The pilot was able to eject from the plane safely.
The Naval Air Station Lemoore confirmed in a statement on Facebook that the aircraft was an F/A-18E Super Hornet from its base. It added that the plane “experienced a mishap during a routine training flight in the Superior Valley, just south of Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake.”
The pilot is now being examined at a local medical facility.
In recent weeks, there have been other fighter jet crashes in the United States, including one in California that occurred during a refueling incident and two at Florida’s Eglin Air Force Base.
