Anthony Weiner holds impromptu ‘meat’ and greet

Notorious New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner sure was pun-ny this weekend, meeting with constituents at a Bronx deli and showing off a big Italian sausage.

Weiner held an impromptu ‘meat’ and greet Saturday at Mike’s Deli in the Bronx and got his hands on the meat, the New York Daily News reported. The Arthur Avenue eatery offered up the sausage, and owner David Greco wasted no time in whipping out the goods for Weiner.

“I’m not a fan, so I had to do something,” Greco told the Daily News. “But you know, he was a very good sport about it.”

Greco continued, saying Weiner took the meats in stride and noted the mayoral candidate’s sense of humor.

“There were guys pushing salamis into his face,” the deli owner said. “My people, they have no filters. But he was cool about it.”

The former New York Congressman’s political career has been plagued by scandal. Weiner resigned from the U.S. House of Representatives in 2011 after posting explicit photos of himself to Twitter accidentally. Then, after announcing he would run for mayor in New York City — and leading in the polls — a woman named Sydney Leathers alleged Weiner sent her tawdry photos not long after he resigned from Congress.

Weiner operated under the pseudonym Carlos Danger, prompting a host of satires and ridicule.

Weiner has gone limp in the polls, ranking fourth among the other mayoral candidates.
